Football for All in the Community
We believe every child should have the chance to play football with no barriers and we are on a mission to make this a reality across Scotland.
We currently have 9 Football for All sites that deliver free fun and football on weeknights to 6-14 years and complement this with free food, fun and football camps during school holidays. Our camps take the off the pitch education and engagement to the next level by including third parties to deliver informative and inspiring half time team talks to participants. Our current sites include Airdrie - North Lanarkshire, Letham – Perth, Raploch – Stirling, Wester Hailes – Edinburgh, Priesthill – Glasgow South, Firhill – Glasgow North, Lochee – Dundee, Irvine – North Ayrshire and Greenock – Inverclyde.
The main objectives of the programme:
-
Access for all – breaking down barriers to exclusion
-
Provide an opportunity where children and young people benefit from being part of a team
-
Create an inclusive environment where the young people have a voice and feel valued, tackling anxieties children have with joining football teams – all abilities welcome
-
Allow children from all backgrounds to make friends and promote positive community engagement, allowing children to mix and play who wouldn’t normally
-
Encourage healthy / active lifestyles
-
Support families by providing children with a free and safe place to go
-
Promote positive mental health through regular participation in sport
-
Promote important competencies the young people can adopt to benefit them in all aspects of their lives
-
Provide the participants with a trusting role model via our coaches
-
Adding to a positive community, taking young people off the streets and engaging them in a fun, safe and enjoyable activity during peak times of anti-social behaviour
-
Building relationships with community members / businesses / role models through half time team talks during holiday programmes
The annual programme comprises of an all-year-round support offering the following in each delivery region:
6-14 years
-
Easter holiday programme – one day camp – three-hour delivery with a half time team talk promoting the off the pitch education and skills delivered by a third party around a topic that will be beneficial to the participants. Participants are also offered a free lunch, helping to tackle holiday hunger.
-
Summer holiday programme – four days of camps – as above
-
October holiday programme – one day camp – as above
The provision prides itself on inclusivity – every young person who comes along will be fully immersed in the session and the coach priority is everyone has fun.
Our sessions are fully flexible and young people can dip in and out as they please, they do not need to come every week, it is on their terms. The participants are also placed at the centre of sessions, and they are fully involved in shaping them, ensuring they get the most out of engagement and are progressing their leadership skills from a young age.
